Biography

Eva Henje is a Professor and Senior Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Umeå University, Sweden. With extensive experience in clinical research, she focuses on trauma, stress-related affective disorders, and the development of effective, non-pharmacological treatments. She aims to improve assessment and diagnostics in youth with emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, and insomnia, employing structural and functional neuroimaging to explore systemic biomarkers related to inflammation and biological aging. Her primary research project, the Training Awareness Resilience Action (TARA), evaluates a neuroscientifically based treatment paradigm for adolescent depression, developed in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco. Henje is also interested in psychedelic science, exploring the effects of MDMA, psilocybin, and ketamine as combined psychotherapy treatments for depression. She serves as a co-investigator on various studies, including trials investigating the efficacy of psilocybin in treating adult depression, and leads projects centered on understanding young people's experiences with mental health care, particularly in Sámi populations. She has contributed to the academic courses in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Umeå University and has taught mindfulness-based programs in multiple countries.
