Biography

Eva Lomnicka studied at Girton College, Cambridge, where she obtained a starred class BA (later MA) degree, followed by a starred Chancellor's medal LLB (later LLM). She began her academic career as a lecturer at King’s College Law School in 1975 and became a professor in 1993, spending her entire academic career at King's. Lomnicka was awarded the King's Lifetime Achievement award in 2018 and took 50% retirement in 2016. Her research interests focus on financial services regulation, particularly in relation to consumer credit law. She has been involved in important regulatory groups, such as the DTI's Consumer Credit Steering Group which led to the Consumer Credit Act 2006, and she currently serves on HMT’s Consumer Credit Expert Working Group. Lomnicka has contributed to the field through her advisory practice and her involvement with various academic journals and professional bodies, including her role as a Bencher of Middle Temple. She has authored and edited numerous influential texts in the field, including the Encyclopedia of Financial Services Law and the Chitty Contracts series.
