Biography

Eva Miller is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of History at University College London. She is a cultural historian with interests in public art, museums, exhibitions, and popular understandings of the deep past. Her postdoctoral project explores the relationship between the ancient Middle East and the modern West, focusing on the processes of rediscovery, transmission, and reception of history. Eva's research interrogates the significance of 'origins' and 'firsts' within museums and public culture, and she has worked on subjects including self-Orientalising German Jewish art and the interplay of art, science, and museums. She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford, where her thesis examined representations of punishment in palace art and Akkadian cuneiform texts from the 7th century BCE. Eva has previously held teaching positions at University College London and the University of Birmingham, as well as a fellowship at the Warburg Institute. Her notable publications include 'Early Civilization American Modern: Images Middle Eastern Origins United States, 1893–1939' and 'Finding Antiquity, Making Modern Middle East: Archaeology, Empires, Nations.'
