Biography

Eva Miller is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in the UCL History Department, specializing in cultural history with a focus on public art, museums, exhibitions, and popular understandings of the deep past. Her postdoctoral project examines the relationship between the ancient Middle East and the modern West, specifically investigating the processes of rediscovery and reception. Her research interests include the historical narratives constructed around 'new pasts' in relation to Egypt and Iraq and how these narratives play a role in modern identity formation. Eva has worked on various projects, including an edited volume that explores the impact of archaeology on European and Middle Eastern imperial and national narratives, and she is committed to interpreting the significance of 'origins' in museums and public culture. She has published works such as 'Early Civilization American Modern: Images Middle Eastern Origins United States, 1893–1939' and co-edited 'Finding Antiquity, Making Modern Middle East: Archaeology, Empires, Nations'. With academic qualifications including a DPhil from the University of Oxford, Eva has also been a teaching fellow in ancient Middle East studies at both UCL and the University of Birmingham.
