Biography

Born in Sweden, Eva Solar-Kinderman studied piano in Prague and won the Czech Youth Music Competition in 1965. She holds advanced degrees from the Zurich Conservatory and Vienna State Academy of Music, where she graduated with distinction. She has had the privilege of working with renowned artists such as Wilhelm Kempff, Sir Alfred Brendel, and Sir András Schiff. Eva is an active performer of solo and chamber music repertoire and has been featured on CBC Public Radio. Her recording of Schubert sonatas was released by Bayer EBS in Germany in 1999. Since 1980, she has been a faculty member at the University of Victoria and the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and in 2017 joined Vancouver Community College. Previously, she taught at the International Piano Masterclass held yearly in the Czech Republic. Her concert career includes extensive tours in Canada, the USA, Europe, and Japan, and she has adjudicated music festivals in British Columbia, as well as given numerous masterclasses and workshops across Canada, the USA, and Central Europe. Ms. Solar-Kinderman was featured in a documentary about prominent Czech immigrants in British Columbia, which was broadcast on Czech national television. In November 2018, she was invited to participate in the Schubertiade in Potsdam alongside Sir Alfred Brendel and selected young international pianists and prominent singers. Reviews of her performances highlight her profound personality and engaging interpretations that penetrate the core of the music.
