Biography

Eva van Lier is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Amsterdam. Her research primarily focuses on morpho-syntactic functional typology, with particular emphasis on word classes, argument structures, and dependent clauses. She was awarded the NWO Vidi grant in June 2019 for her project "Exceptions Rule! Her PhD dissertation, completed in 2009, investigated the typological study of word class systems and was recognized with the Joseph Greenberg Award for the best typological dissertation. Van Lier has published extensively, with recent works on lexical restrictions and grammatical relations appearing in various linguistic journals. She is actively involved in teaching and supervising students, focusing on subjects such as Syntax and Linguistic Typology.
