Dr. Eva Wilden

Biography

Eva Wilden is a Professor of Tamil Studies at the University of Hamburg, where she has contributed significantly to the fields of Classical Tamil Literature and Manuscript Studies. Her academic journey includes a PhD with magna cum laude, followed by a habilitation and numerous awards, including the presidential award `Kural Peetam`. Wilden is also the Principal Investigator for the ERC Advanced Grant project `NETamil`, which focuses on the network of intellectual exchange in Tamil learned traditions. Her role extends to directorship of various projects related to manuscript cultures. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has organized seminars and workshops dedicated to Classical Tamil. Her publication record is extensive, featuring critical editions and annotated translations of Tamil texts, as well as numerous articles on Tamil poetics, linguistics, and cultural history. Wilden's expertise encompasses Classical Tamil texts, manuscript studies, and the interaction between Tamil and Sanskrit literatures. She continues to shape the academic landscape through her teaching, research, and scholarly contributions.
