J. Evan Kreider is a Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia's School of Music, where he has been teaching since 1975. He holds a PhD in Musicology from Indiana University. His research focuses on Renaissance chant, early music notation, the recension of manuscript printed sources, and liturgical music. Kreider has worked on critical editions of the secular works of Pierre de la Rue and has explored the intersection of politics, theology, and music, particularly as it relates to Martin Luther. He has co-edited La Rue’s Opera Omnia, contributing to various publications including Corpus Early Keyboard Music, Musica disciplina, and Notes. Throughout his 31 years at the School of Music, Kreider has enjoyed witnessing students' progress, teaching courses such as Music 120 and leading fourth-year seminars. One memorable experience was when he guided a seminar for six graduate students that culminated in a celebratory potluck dinner. Now in his post-retirement years, he hopes to assist the Development department in meeting potential donors to support the Music Arts program at UBC.
