Biography

Evan Walter Clark Spotte-Smith is an adjunct professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and an incoming Ad Astra Fellow and assistant professor in the School of Chemistry at University College Dublin. Their research primarily focuses on leveraging computational simulations and data science to understand the reactivity of complex systems, electrochemical interfaces, and solid-state syntheses, with particular interest in potential high-throughput experimentation. Spotte-Smith is involved in developing general-purpose data software, especially applications in catalysis and sustainability. They received their Ph.D. and master's degrees in Materials Science Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a bachelor's degree in Materials Science Engineering from Columbia University. As a Carnegie Bosch Institute Postdoctoral Fellow, they collaborated with Rachel Kurchin, an assistant research professor in materials science engineering at CMU, and previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship under Gabe Gomes, assistant professor of chemical engineering at CMU.
