Biography

Evan Wiens is a Critical Care Nuclear Cardiologist at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute at the University of Alberta. He has completed concurrent undergraduate degrees in Science and Arts from the University of Manitoba, a Master of Science in Chemistry, and has finished his Medical School also at the University of Manitoba. Following this, he accomplished his Internal Medicine residency in Manitoba and is currently in Cardiology residency, completing a Critical Care Cardiology fellowship at the University of Alberta in 2024. Dr. Wiens engages in a busy clinical practice that focuses on nuclear, general, and critical care cardiology at the University of Alberta and is involved in teaching and mentorship within the Adult Cardiology residency program. Academically, he is well-published, active in outcomes research, and serves on the editorial board of multiple journals, including as an Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. Outside of work, Dr. Wiens enjoys spending time with friends and family, is a devoted sports fan, particularly of the Winnipeg Jets, and is an avid consumer of wine, holding a certification as a French Wine Scholar.
