Biography

Evangelos Mazomenos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at University College London (UCL), specializing in Medical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. He is the co-investigator at the UCL Hawkes Institute and has previously held positions such as Deputy Director of Public Engagement at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional Surgical Sciences at UCL. Before his appointment at UCL, he was a University Academic Fellow focused on Healthcare Surgical Robotics at the University of Leeds, where he worked jointly in the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and the School of Medicine. Mazomenos also served as a Senior Research Associate in the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Leeds and as a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton. He completed his PhD in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Southampton, where he researched wireless sensor networks and was awarded the IET Leslie H. Paddle scholarship in 2009. He also holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in Greece. His research interests encompass computer vision, medical image analysis, and next-generation computer-assisted robotic surgical interventions. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions Society.
