Dr. Evanthia Papadopoulou

Biography

Evanthia Papadopoulou is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Università della Svizzera italiana, having joined in 2008 as an Associate Professor and promoted to Professor in 2016. Before her tenure at USI, she was a research staff member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center from 1996 to 2008. Additionally, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece starting in 2004. Evanthia holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Athens, a Master's in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in December 1995. Her research interests focus on the design and analysis of discrete algorithms, computational geometry applications, and robust geometric computing, with emphasis on implementing geometric algorithms. She has contributed significantly to algorithmic aspects of VLSI computer-aided design, notably through her work on 'Voronoi diagram based VLSI Critical Area Analysis', which earned her the IBM Outstanding Innovation Award in August 2006 and a Technical Accomplishment award at IBM Research in December 2006.
