Biography

Evdoxios Doxiadis completed his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in 2007. He was a Ted Elaine Athanassiades post-doctoral fellow at Princeton University from 2007 to 2008, subsequently worked at the International Center for Hellenic Mediterranean Studies and San Francisco State University from 2008 to 2012, and later joined Simon Fraser University. His research focuses primarily on 18th and 19th century Greek Mediterranean history with a particular interest in questions of law, gender, minorities, state formation, and nationalism. Doxiadis has published extensively on various topics including the influence of Islamic law on Greek Orthodox divorce during the Ottoman rule, the legal constructs during the Greek War of Independence, and issues surrounding gender equity in historical contexts. His notable works include 'Gender and Divorce in Europe: 1600 – 1900', 'Living Under Austerity: Greek Society in Crisis', and 'State, Nationalism, and the Jewish Communities of Modern Greece'. He is also active in supervising graduate students in fields related to Modern Europe and Modern Greece.
