Dr. Eve Colpus

Biography

Eve Colpus is an Associate Professor in the History Department at the University of Southampton, focusing on British European History post-1850. Her research primarily covers twentieth-century British social and cultural history, exploring themes such as gender history, cultural history, and intellectual history. Colpus's current research investigates the significance of telephones in the lives of children and young people in Britain during the 1980s and 1990s, a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. She is also engaged in researching histories related to charity and identity selfhood during the interwar period. Colpus has authored publications, including a monograph, 'Female Philanthropy in the Interwar World', published by Bloomsbury Academic Press in 2018, which received the Highly Recommended Women's History Network Book Prize in 2019. With an academic career starting at the University of Oxford, where she completed her MSt and DPhil, she joined the University of Southampton in 2012 and became an associate professor in 2019. Her teaching aims to explore the social and cultural histories of twentieth-century Britain, emphasizing the perspectives of ordinary people's lives.
