Biography

Eve Warburton is a Research Fellow in the Department of Political and Social Change at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs at the Australian National University. She serves as the Director of ANU's Indonesia Institute within the College of Asia and the Pacific. Her research broadly addresses issues of representation and governance in young developing democracies, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia and Indonesia. Warburton is the principal investigator on the research project 'Private Power Public Office', which investigates the rise of business politicians in Indonesia and the implications for democracy and good governance. This project is supported by a Futures Grant of $200,000, awarded to outstanding early career researchers at ANU. Additionally, she co-leads an ARC Discovery Project on Political Representation in Indonesia, which examines the quality of democratic representation through surveys of voters and elected legislators. She has published in leading journals in the field of area studies on topics including democratic representation, state-business relations, and the political economy of policymaking in Indonesia. Her book manuscript, 'Resource Nationalism in Indonesia: Booms, Big Business and the State', is set to be published with Cornell University Press in 2023.
