Biography

Evelyn Thomson is a standing faculty professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Her research primarily focuses on Experimental Particle Physics and Collider Physics. She has conducted significant experiments in particle physics, particularly involving the W boson mass and top quark properties, at institutions such as CERN and Fermilab. After earning her Ph.D. in Experimental Particle Physics from the University of Glasgow in 1999, she began her postdoctoral research at Ohio State University, contributing to the CDF collaboration. Here she worked on critical aspects of the CDF project including high-speed tracking systems. In 2004, she joined the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant professor, where she advanced to associate professor in 2010. Her teaching includes various courses on particle physics and fundamental principles of physics.
