Evelyn Yim joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo as an Associate Professor in 2016. She specializes in nanofabrication technologies and stem cell culture, leading the Regenerative Nanomedicine Lab. Her research focuses on the interaction between biomaterials and stem cells to influence stem cell differentiation and tissue regeneration, particularly for neural, vascular, and corneal applications. As a pioneer in stem cell-topography interactions, she explores using synthetic materials to alter stem cell behavior. Evelyn's educational background includes a BASc in Engineering Science and a MASc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto, followed by a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. She has also conducted post-doctoral research at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Duke University. Prior to her current role, she worked in Singapore from 2007 to 2015, where she held a joint appointment at the National University of Singapore and the Mechanobiology Institute Singapore.
