Biography

Everardo Macias is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Duke University and an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Cell Biology. He is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute and leads the Macias Lab, which focuses on gaining basic mechanistic insights into clinically relevant actionable molecular targets to aid in reducing prostate cancer-specific mortality. His research group integrates human cancer genomic data with functional genomic loss-of-function screens and pre-clinical in vitro and in vivo mouse models to identify, prioritize, and validate potential therapeutic targets. Macias has conducted significant work in functional genomic kinome screens and has explored the essential orphan kinases involved in tumor growth within different host environments. He is actively involved in drug development and optimization strategies to improve target engagement and efficacy of lead compounds, in collaboration with medicinal chemists and structural biologists. Alongside these efforts, he conducts basic mechanistic studies to determine the mechanisms of action using live cell imaging and genetic studies, employing various omics approaches.
