Biography

Everett E. Vokes, MD, serves as the Chair of the Department of Medicine and the John E. Ultmann Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. He completed his medical degree at the University of Bonn Medical School in Germany and undertook clinical training in various esteemed institutions, including his residency in internal medicine at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles County Hospital. Dr. Vokes specializes in radiation and cellular oncology, with focused clinical interests in hematology, lung cancer, mediastinal tumors, and oral cancer. He is recognized as a clinical translational investigator, emphasizing the biology of treatment for lung and head/neck cancers and the intersection of chemotherapy and radiation with targeted immune-based agents. Dr. Vokes has contributed to a significant number of publications, including over 80 book chapters and 500 papers in leading medical journals. As an active member of various professional organizations, he plays a critical role in national trials investigating concurrent chemoradiotherapy approaches and leads clinical translational investigations.
