Biography

Evgueni Filipov is an Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan. He obtained his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2016, following his Master's in 2012, and Bachelor's degree in 2009. His research interests focus on field deployable reconfigurable structural systems, particularly those based on origami principles. He is involved in developing analytical tools to simulate mechanical and multi-physical phenomena in deployable structures and exploring the geometric factors that influence stiffness properties for optimizing novel structures. His work applies 3D printing and multi-material additive manufacturing techniques to create cellular metamaterials with unique adaptable characteristics. Filipov is also engaged in large-scale folding systems using thick panels with connected hinges for mechanical deployment. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Physical Society.
