Dr. Evina Katsou

Biography

Professor Evina Katsou is a leading expert in Water Environmental Engineering and the Chair Professor at Imperial College London. She leads the Resilience & Sustainability group, which comprises 25 postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. Her work integrates advanced digital tools, artificial intelligence, and data-driven models to pioneer sustainable and resilient solutions across water, wastewater, and industrial sectors. With a focus on AI-based water environmental solutions, Prof. Katsou has led 40 research and development projects, coordinating as the Principal Investigator for 27 projects including SMART-Plant and DEEP-Purple under the Horizon 2020 initiative. She addresses challenges in wastewater treatment, resource recovery, and renewable energy development, creating decision-making tools for industries. Prof. Katsou has authored 120 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to 12 book chapters, and has delivered over 150 presentations at international conferences. Her work significantly advances circular economy frameworks and greenhouse gases monitoring and mitigation strategies, while contributing to sustainability and resilience methodologies. Additionally, she co-leads the Action Group on Intelligent Smart Systems within the ICT4Water Cluster, chairs working groups for various cost actions, and serves as the co-chair for the IWA Small Water & Wastewater Systems Specialist Group. Prof. Katsou is a key member of the drafting team for new ISO standards in Circular Economy.
