Biography

Ewa Batyra is an Associate Professor in Social Demography at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at St John's College. Her research lies at the intersection of demography, sociology, and international development. Ewa's latest studies focus on the relationship between social and economic inequality and fertility change, exploring variations in gender differences in family formation and the consequences of policy changes on families' health. She is the Principal Investigator of an ERC Starting Grant project titled 'Diverging Patterns of Reproductive Behaviour in Countries around the Globe,' which takes a cross-country comparative perspective focusing on over 120 nations spanning the Global North and South. The project aims to investigate patterns, trends, and determinants of growing within-country variation in childbearing age and fertility levels.
