Dr. Ewa Czaykowska Higgins

Biography

Ewa Czaykowska-Higgins is a linguist and a Professor in Indigenous Education at the University of Victoria. She has worked for many years with the Nxaʔamxčín Language Program for the Colville Tribes and with the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board. Her expertise lies in language reclamation, digital dictionary construction, and the expansion of community-based research methodologies for language documentation. As a collaborator, she is currently a co-Principal Investigator on the NEȾOLṈEW̱: 'One Mind, People' Project, led by Drs. Onowa McIvor and Peter Jacob, which focuses on Indigenous adult language learning. In 2003, she was involved in the development and delivery of Indigenous Language Revitalization undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Victoria. Through her work, she has significantly contributed to community language reclamation projects and enhanced methodologies for language documentation.
