Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel

Biography

Ezekiel J. Emanuel is the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives and the Diane v.S. Levy Robert M. Levy University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also serves as Co-Director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute. Emanuel has previously held notable positions, including special advisor to the Health Policy Director at the Office of Management and Budget under President Obama, and he was the founding chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. He has an extensive background in medical ethics, health policy, and healthcare management, having published over 300 articles and authored or edited 15 books focused predominantly on health care reform and medical ethics. Emanuel received both his M.D. from Harvard Medical School and a Ph.D. in political philosophy from Harvard University. His academic interests and teachings revolve around the complexities of health care systems, reform initiatives, and ethical considerations in medical practice.
