Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel

Biography

Ezekiel Emanuel is the University Professor and Vice Provost for Global Initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania, where he holds appointments in both the Wharton School and the Perelman School of Medicine. He has made significant contributions to the fields of health policy and medical ethics, and has served as a special advisor for health policy at the White House Office of Management and Budget. Emanuel has led the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania and held the chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health. With an extensive academic background, he earned his MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in political philosophy from Harvard University. He has also completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital and an oncology fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Emanuel has been a visiting professor at various prestigious institutions including the University of Pittsburgh, UCLA, Johns Hopkins University, and New York University. He is a prolific author with nine books and over 200 scientific articles to his name, and continues to be a well-regarded columnist.
