Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel

Biography

Ezekiel J. Emanuel is a prominent figure in the field of medical ethics and health policy, serving as the Diane v.S. Levy & Robert M. Levy Professor and Vice Provost for Global Initiatives at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds an MD from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in Political Philosophy from Harvard University, as well as a MSc from Exeter College, Oxford University, and a BA in Chemistry from Amherst College. Emanuel has had a distinguished career, including being the chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health from 1997 to 2011, and serving as a special advisor to the health policy director of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House from January 2009 to January 2011. He has also held visiting professorships at several prestigious institutions including UCLA, Johns Hopkins Medical School, and New York University Law School. A prolific author, he has written and edited 15 books and over 300 scientific articles, and is a regular contributor on platforms like CNN and MSNBC, as well as in publications such as The Atlantic and The Washington Post.
