Professor Dr. Ezequiel González Ocantos

Biography

Ezequiel González Ocantos is a Professor of Comparative Judicial Politics at the University of Oxford and a Professorial Fellow at Nuffield College. He completed his PhD in Political Science at the University of Notre Dame in 2012, and his doctoral thesis was awarded the Edward S. Corwin Award by the American Political Science Association in 2013. His research focuses on comparative judicial politics, particularly the determinants of judicial and prosecutorial behavior in high-stakes cases involving macro-criminality, human rights violations, and grand corruption. He has published several influential books and articles in leading political science journals. His notable works include 'Shifting Legal Visions: Judicial Change and Human Rights Trials in Latin America', which received multiple academic awards, and 'Politics of Transitional Justice in Latin America'. He is currently writing a book on partisanship and polarization in Latin America. In addition to his research, he teaches various courses related to comparative government and qualitative methods, and he actively supervises students interested in his research areas.
