Biography

Professor Duddeck conducts research in the development of numerical methods for simulation and optimization of structures, focusing on parameter, shape, topology, layout, and material optimization for nonlinear dynamic problems such as acoustics and crash scenarios. His work involves new approaches to material modeling, including composites and biomaterials, and addresses uncertainties to enhance flexibility, robustness, and reliability in multi-physics and multi-disciplinary applications. He studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), obtaining his Diplom in 1990 and a doctorate in Mechanics in 1997. After a postdoc period at the École Polytechnique in Palaiseau, he achieved his postdoctoral teaching qualification (Habilitation) in 2001. He has held research and development positions in the industry, including at BMW, and was a lecturer at TUM. In 2005/6, he served as a Reader (Associate Professor) at the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and as a Maître de Conférences at the École des Ponts ParisTech (ENPC). He was appointed Professor of Computational Mechanics at TUM in 2010.
