Biography

Fabiana T. Almeida is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. She completed her dental training in Brazil and specialized in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Almeida holds a Master’s degree in Health Sciences with a focus on Oral Diagnosis received in 2010 and a PhD achieved in 2016. Her postdoctoral fellowship was completed at the University of Alberta from 2017 to 2019, where she worked on projects involving novel ultrasound technologies applied to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and periodontium. Currently, she teaches Oral Radiology to undergraduate and graduate students and serves as the Discipline Lead for Oral Maxillofacial Radiology. Almeida's research interests include advanced imaging techniques, particularly ultrasound, MRI, and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), aimed at diagnosing oral and systemic disorders and improving TMJ imaging practices. She has authored several publications focusing on the applications of artificial intelligence in imaging diagnostics, emphasizing her commitment to integrating innovative technologies in clinical practice and education.
