Dr. Fabien Delerue

Biography

Fabien Delerue is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Macquarie University, leading the Genome Editing Macquarie (GEM) transgenic core part of the Dementia Research Centre (DRC), which is a discovery-based research centre established in 2018. He graduated from the University of Bordeaux in France and obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney. Fabien has significant research experience, particularly in the preclinical Centre of Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd in Basel, Switzerland, focusing on in vivo activities, including animal models of diseases. He progressed to a Lecturer position at the University of New South Wales in 2013, where he managed the Transgenic Animal Unit. By 2018, he joined Macquarie University as a Senior Lecturer and head of the GEM transgenic facility. His primary research involves developing novel genome editing and gene transfer techniques, particularly relevant to dementia, while also establishing a research program addressing rare genetic disorders. His distinguished contributions to the field of transgenesis and genome editing are recognized internationally, with ongoing projects that include optimizing gene transfer methods for genetically modified animals and engineering new endonucleases.
