Biography

Fabien Medvecky is a science communication academic with a background in philosophy (PhD) and economics (Postgraduate Diploma). His work explores the nature of knowledge, particularly scientific knowledge, and emphasizes the importance of shaped conversations between experts and non-experts. Medvecky is actively engaged in questions of social epistemology and the ethics of science communication, recognizing that the discipline is inherently interdisciplinary and often transdisciplinary in scope. He has extensive experience working in Australia and New Zealand and has collaborated internationally. Medvecky served as the Secretary of the Public Communication of Science and Technology network from 2016 to 2018 and was the president of the Science Communicators' Association in New Zealand. His research interests include the ethics of science communication, public understanding of science, the economics of scientific research, the scope and limits of responsible research innovation (RRI), and the supervision of research students.
