Biography

Fabien joined Cornell in January 2023 as an assistant professor at the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He leads the Cornell Space Structures laboratory. Prior to his current position, Fabien was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He obtained both his Master of Science and PhD degrees in Space Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from ISAE-SUPAERO, a French national institute focused on Aeronautics and Space. During his time at Caltech, he worked in Professor Pellegrino’s Space Structures Laboratory, where his research concentrated on ultra-lightweight shell structures, instabilities, and their application in large space solar power spacecraft. Fabien was involved in the AAReST (Autonomous Assembly Reconfigurable Space Telescope) small satellite mission, contributing to spacecraft software and hardware development. In addition to his research, he co-chaired the 2019 Caltech Space Challenge, an international student space mission design competition. He has received several accolades, including the William F. Ballhaus Prize for his outstanding doctoral dissertation and the Ernest E. Sechler Memorial Award for significant contributions to his department's teaching and research efforts.
