Biography

Fabien Sorin is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. He leads the Photonic Materials and Fiber Devices Laboratory (FIMAP) since March 2013, focusing on the development of innovative materials processing approaches for photonic device architectures aimed at energy harvesting, storage, sensing, monitoring, and smart fabrics applications. Fabien Sorin earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2008, where he investigated multi-material fiber devices under Prof. Yoel Fink's supervision. Following his doctorate, he worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics, where he led projects on emerging multi-material fibers. Prior to joining EPFL, he served as a Research Engineer at Saint-Gobain Recherche in France, focusing on photonic materials and nanostructures for energy-efficient building applications.
