Dr. Fabio Crestani

Biography

Fabio Crestani has been a full professor at the Faculty of Informatics at Università della Svizzera italiana since January 2007. He previously held the position of full professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK, from 2000. Crestani has been a visiting professor at IMAG in France and has spent sabbatical years at UC Berkeley and Xerox PARC in the USA. His postdoctoral research was conducted at the University of Glasgow, the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK. He served as an assistant professor at the Department of Information Engineering at the University of Padova in Italy from 1992 to 1997. He has held prestigious positions such as the Catedra de Excellencia at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in Spain and has received several fellowships including the Isambard Kingdom Brunell Fellowship at the University of Portsmouth. Crestani's primary research interests include Information Retrieval, Text Mining, and Digital Libraries, with over 250 publications to his name, including the authorship of a book and co-editing 14 others. He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Information Processing & Management from 2008 to 2015 and is a member of the editorial board for several journals. In March 2024, he took on the role of Pro-rector for Internationalisation at USI.
