Biography

Fabrizio Alberti is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, where he specializes in microbiology and natural product biosynthesis. His research focuses on the discovery of novel compounds from fungi, particularly within the Ascomycota and Basidiomycota phyla. He has developed a platform based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae to enhance the production of specific natural products called isoprenoid quinones. Fabrizio is also advancing synthetic biology tools that allow the scientific community to explore the genetic potentials of lesser-known fungi. One of his notable achievements includes applying CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing techniques to manipulate the biosynthesis of bioactive natural products, enhancing their investigation and application in various fields. His contributions to understanding microbial metabolism and biosynthesis place him at the forefront of research in natural products and microbiological applications, with ongoing projects aimed at developing innovative solutions for biocontrol and sustainable agriculture.
