Biography

Fabrizio Fenghi is an Associate Professor of Slavic Studies at Brown University, specializing in contemporary Russian culture and politics, particularly the relationship between art and literature in shaping post-Soviet public culture. He received his Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Yale University in 2016. A native of Milan, Italy, he earned his B.A. and M.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Milan and has spent years in study and research in Moscow, Russia, affiliated with the Russian State University for the Humanities and Moscow State University. Fenghi's book, "Fun Terrifying: Nationalism Protest Post-Soviet Russia" (University of Wisconsin Press: 2020), investigates how the aesthetics and culture of the National Bolshevik Party influenced the Russian protest culture and the state ideology in the Putin era. His current project, tentatively titled "Revolution Fictionalized: Postmodern Politics Radical Literature in Putin’s Russia," delves into the politicization of literature and the literary debates that occurred over recent decades during a period marked by fundamental depoliticization of society. He teaches courses on twentieth- and twenty-first-century Russian culture, literature, politics, gender, sexuality, nationalism, and national identity.
