Biography

Fadi Abdeljawad is an Associate Professor of Materials Science Engineering at Northwestern University. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Mechanical Engineering with a primary focus on theoretical computational materials science from Princeton University, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University. His research is primarily concerned with the manipulation of microstructures in materials to meet the technological demands of the 21st century. His group utilizes theoretical analysis, atomistic simulations, and mesoscale computational modeling to understand how materials microstructures form and evolve under different processing treatments and operating conditions. By integrating machine learning frameworks, they aim to explore complex relationships between processes, structures, and properties efficiently and cost-effectively. His research interests encompass grain boundary chemistry, defects in two-dimensional materials, nanoscale sintering, and advancements in 3D printing technologies, among others.
