Biography

Dr. Fady B. Abdelaal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Queen's University, specializing in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Ain Shams University in Egypt, where he conducted research on sand-bentonite mixtures for landfill liners. Dr. Abdelaal pursued his Doctoral research at Queen's University, focusing on the chemical durability of geomembrane liners used in municipal solid waste landfills. After obtaining his Doctorate in 2013, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. R. Kerry Rowe, investigating the durability of geomembranes in emerging geoenvironmental applications. Prior to his current role, he served as an Assistant Professor in Egypt. His research interests include the performance and degradation of geosynthetic materials in various environmental conditions, and he has published extensively in leading journals. He is actively involved in professional societies and holds leadership positions within the International Geosynthetics Society.
