Dr. Fady Balaa

Biography

Fady Balaa is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa, specializing in general and hepatobiliary surgery. He completed his medical education at the University of Western Ontario, followed by a residency in general surgery at the University of Ottawa and a fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Dundee. Dr. Balaa has served as a residency program director and is the division head of General Surgery at the University of Ottawa. Furthermore, he is a member of the General Surgery examination committee with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and works as a physician advisor for the Canadian Medical Protective Association. His research interests focus on medical education and leadership within the field of surgery, advocating for shared care models and exploring innovations that improve patient outcomes. Dr. Balaa is dedicated to fostering an educational environment that promotes success and prepares students for their future careers. His active involvement in the academic community is complemented by his commitment to excellent teaching and mentorship.
