Biography

Fadya El Rayess, MD, MPH, is the Program Director of the Brown Family Medicine Residency. She has been involved in residency leadership since 2011 and became the Residency Director in 2017. El Rayess is a National Health Service Corps Scholar and worked in Rhode Island community health centers for twelve years prior to her leadership role. She graduated from the University of New Mexico Family Medicine Residency in 1999 and completed a Faculty Leadership Development Fellowship at Brown University. El Rayess has a MPH in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention from George Washington University. Her clinical interests encompass global health, advocacy, health disparities, anti-racism, reproductive health, and healthcare for LGBTQ immigrants and refugees. As a Co-Director of the Scholarly Concentration in Caring for Underserved Populations at Alpert Medical School of Brown University, she focuses on educational research aimed at enhancing care delivery for underserved communities. She is actively involved in primary care research, particularly in training family medicine residents to practice in rural and urban settings. El Rayess has secured multiple HRSA training grants and is engaged in developing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within family medicine residencies.
