Biography

Faez Ahmed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds the Doherty Chair and focuses his research on generative design, optimization in engineering design, and the interplay between human and artificial intelligence teams. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park in 2019, following his B.Tech and M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2012. His notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award in 2025, the ASME Design Theory Methods Young Investigator Award in 2024, and the Google Research Scholar Award in 2024. He has postdoctoral experience from Northwestern University and previously worked as a Reliability Engineer for Rio Tinto in Australia. Ahmed is also an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.
