Biography

Fahad Ferdous is currently an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Penn State Harrisburg. Prior to joining Penn State Harrisburg, he served as an Assistant Professor at Indiana State University. He has also worked as a Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Binghamton University (SUNY). Dr. Ferdous has over a decade of computational experience using molecular dynamics simulations to study the mechanics of materials, including ceramic composites, metals, biomaterials, and polymer composites. His teaching interests encompass capstone design, mechanics of materials, machine design, materials science, kinematics, and engineering economics. Dr. Ferdous's research development focuses on multiscale computational models to understand the mechanical performance of advanced structural and biological materials. His research investigates the fracture behavior of armor steel in corrosive environments and the mechanical behavior of cytoskeletal components related to traumatic brain injury. Additionally, he explores smart bone scaffolds designed for patient-specific injuries and the recovery of high-value energy materials from wastewater. His research is conducted in collaboration with institutions such as the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, University of Texas at Arlington, University of South Florida, and Indiana State University.
