Dr. Faiza Hirji

Biography

Faiza Hirji is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies and Media Arts at McMaster University. Her research interests focus on media representation, examining the intersections of race, religion, ethnicity, and gender in media narratives. Additionally, she explores how media constructs identity and the significance of media within diasporic and transnational communities. Hirji's scholarship contributes to a deeper understanding of how media influences public perception and identity formation, particularly within marginalized groups. She is known for her book 'Dreaming Canadian: South Asian Youth, Bollywood ...', which investigates the representation of South Asian youth in popular culture.
