Biography

Fannie Lafontaine is a lawyer and a full professor at the Faculty of Law at Laval University. She holds the Canada Research Chair in International Criminal Justice and Fundamental Rights. Lafontaine is a regular member of the Quebec Institute of International High Studies and co-director of the International and Transnational Law Centre at Laval University. She founded and co-directs the International Criminal and Humanitarian Law Clinic and is a recipient of the 'Hommage aux innovations sociales' prize from Laval University. Before joining Laval University, she served as an advisor and human rights specialist at the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights in Geneva, and she was involved in various roles related to human rights and international law. Lafontaine graduated with a Ph.D. from National University of Ireland Galway and has authored numerous works on international criminal law, including 'Prosecuting Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity, and War Crimes in Canadian Courts'.
