Professor Dr. Fantahun Defersha

Biography

Fantahun Defersha is a professor at the University of Guelph specializing in manufacturing systems and optimization. His research interests include manufacturing system analysis, flexible cellular manufacturing systems, and modular manufacturing systems. He is particularly focused on reconfigurable machine tools and manufacturing systems, addressing challenges in part sequencing, scheduling, and production inventory planning. Defersha's work also encompasses vehicle routing, transportation network optimization, and supply chain modeling and simulation, with applications in reverse logistics and remanufacturing systems. His research often employs meta-heuristic methods and parallel computation for optimization tasks. Defersha teaches graduate courses in Optimization Engineering and Simulation Modeling Analysis, as well as undergraduate courses in Engineering Mechanics and Computer Aided Design.
