Dr. Farah Magrabi

Biography

Farah Magrabi is a Professor at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University, specializing in the intersection of artificial intelligence and patient safety within digital health environments. With a background in Electrical Biomedical Engineering and a PhD, her research focuses on evaluating the clinical safety and effectiveness of AI technologies as they interact with both clinicians and consumers. An internationally recognized leader in medical informatics, Farah's contributions have been pivotal in identifying and addressing patient safety risks associated with digital health technologies across Australia, the USA, and England. Her influential work has notably shaped international policy, leading to new specifications by the International Organization for Standardization. Farah has been awarded multiple honors, including the Sax Institute’s Research Action Award and recognition as a national research leader in Medical Informatics on several occasions. As a Fellow of both the American College of Medical Informatics and the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics, she continues to lead initiatives to improve digital health governance and safety. Her work includes active participation in various national and international committees focused on AI in healthcare and serving as an Associate Editor for the Journal of American Medical Informatics Association.
