Biography

Farid Taheri teaches courses in mechanics of materials, computations, finite element methods, fracture mechanics, and fatigue, primarily focused on structural and materials response modeling using computational and experimental methods. His research areas include finite element modeling of non-linear phenomena, exploring the response of advanced fiber-reinforced polymer composites, nanocomposites, and fiber-metal laminate composites. Taheri's research aims at characterizing the impact response of these materials to low- and high-velocity impacts, and examining their delamination and fracture mechanics. He has extensive experience in computational mechanics, experimental characterization, structural rehabilitation, and vibration-based damage detection using smart sensors and materials. With eight years of industry experience before transitioning to academia in 1994, he has contributed to various consulting projects for notable organizations like the Canadian Space Agency and Defence Research Laboratories. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia and a member of ASME.
