Biography

Farzad Mortazavi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. He obtained his BA in Psychology from the University of South Florida, followed by an MS from Central Michigan University, and a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Northeastern University, focusing on Behavioral Neuroscience. After completing his postdoctoral fellowship at the Michel J. Fox Foundation in the Department of Neurology at UCLA, he concentrated on molecular and neuroanatomical changes in neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Mortazavi’s research primarily explores the three-dimensional reconstruction of white matter pathways and cortical columns utilizing Confocal and 2-photon microscopy, alongside statistical physics analysis of large datasets. His laboratory studies the effects of normal aging on the structure and function of the cerebral cortex in a non-human primate model and examines cortical ischemia. Additionally, he teaches statistics within his department and mentors students in techniques such as immunohistochemistry and cell analysis. Dr. Mortazavi is actively engaged with the Forensic Anthropology program, delivering courses on Experimental Design and Analysis for Forensic Anthropologists.
