Biography

Farzad Naeim has over 40 years of experience in structural analysis, design, peer review, research development, and seismic retrofit design for buildings. He has special expertise in applying performance-based design methodologies and the design of systems incorporating seismic isolation and energy dissipation devices. He has played significant roles as past president of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and current member of the California Hospital Building Safety Board. Naeim is also the chair of the California Strong Motion Instrumentation Advisory Committee and serves as the president of the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council, as well as the International Association for Earthquake Engineering. He is a primary author of performance-based design guidelines for tall buildings and has been recognized for his contributions to performance-based seismic design by being elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2022.
