Professor Dr. Farzaneh Farhang Mehr

Biography

Farzaneh Farhang-Mehr is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She holds M.A.Sc and Ph.D. degrees from UBC and is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng). Her research interests focus on additive manufacturing, advanced casting processes, and advanced simulation techniques, including heat transfer, stress analysis, and fluid flow. Farzaneh is particularly interested in the educational aspects of materials engineering, exploring the effectiveness of emerging teaching methods and the integration of artificial intelligence and immersive experiences into the curriculum. She aims to promote higher-order thinking as described by Bloom's taxonomy and is dedicated to developing and applying open educational resources in line with Universal Design for Learning principles, which create inclusive and engaging learning environments for students. Her past research was centered on advanced casting technologies and the use of Additive Manufacturing (AM), where she employed a structured three-phase approach involving mathematical modeling and experimental validation to improve component quality and transition towards more efficient and sustainable manufacturing practices.
